Battery operated cycle-cum-moped hits the roads next month

GMI

[Technology News]: Mumbai, Mar. 16 : Worried with the rising prices of petrol, diesel and rising pollution on the city roads? Genxt Power India Ltd, a Mumbai based company has come out with a unique solution - a battery operated cycle cum moped 'MOICLE' which is a noiseless, zero emission vehicle and gets recharged through electricity.

''This bike is a battery operated vehicle. It is pollution free, does not create any noise and is cost effective as compared to petrol vehicles,'' said Dr. Vishwas B. Panse, President Genxt Powers India Ltd.

Moicle's battery consumption is less than 2 to 2.5 units of power for a single charge, which costs about 3 paise per kilometre and Rs.3 per 100 kilograms and can run for a total distance of more than 45 Kilometres.

The product is specially aimed to benefit the residents of small towns where the distances are short and devoid of traffic congestion.

The target group of this trendy, sleek and lightweight vehicle would be school and college going students, housewives, frequenting short distances. "MOICLE'', however, cannot be used as a direct substitute to petrol vehicles.

''It is basically a secondary vehicle and cannot be directly substituted to a petrol vehicle. It is useful for short distances, even otherwise 70 percent people travel about 25 Kilometres a day, so this vehicle is enough for their day to day requirements but it is definitely an intra city vehicle not an inter city vehicle, said Dr. Vishwas B. Panse, President Genxt Powers India Ltd.

According to the company officials, Moicle would hit the roads by April. The slender vehicle has the capacity to carry a load of 100 kilograms at the maximum speed of 25 Kilometres per hour.

The 45 kg, Moicle has been priced at Rs.17000 and will be available in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh during the first phase of selling.

Meanwhile the company has also improvised its Motorcycle model called "Genxt", again an environmental friendly vehicle operating on alternative fuel like electricity, which was launched last year.

The technology used for making 'MOICLE' is indigenous and is patented under the Paris Convention covering 112 countries.

The two-wheelers in India consume more than 60 percent of petrol and accounts for nearly 70 percent of the total hydrocarbon emissions. The manufacturers of the new bike claims that the battery charged motorcycle is the perfect answer to growing pollution in Indian cities.

The company has already launched different models of e-bikes ranging from Rs 15,000 to Rs 120,000 including its main brand Genxt. According to them, their bikes would be able to bring the fuel consumption down. (ANI)
