Two plates are issued to passenger cars or light trucks owned by recipients of the Air Force Cross or Distinguished Service Cross, the Army Distinguished Service Cross, the Navy Cross, or the Medal of Honor. A written request along with proof of eligibility must be submitted to the Vehicle Titles and Registration Division. The applicant must be honorably discharged if no longer a member of the United States armed forces. The fee is $3 for the first vehicle. The plates are mailed directly to the applicant.
Additional sets of plates may be issued for a fee of $15 in addition to the regular registration fees and other applicable fees. The regular registration fee and other applicable fees are submitted to the county tax assessor-collector’s office when the plates are approved. Of each specialty license plate fee collected, $.50 is sent to the county in which the owner resides. The surviving spouse of a person who would be eligible for Legion of Valor specialty license plates is entitled to continue to register one vehicle with the specialty license plate as long as the spouse remains unmarried.
