Registration and Title Bulletin #052-05
PURPOSE
To inform you of the transition from steel to recycled aluminum for
general issue license plates.
DETAILS
The Texas Department of Criminal Justice began using recycled aluminum
to make specialty license plates in October 2004. The current stock of
steel has been exhausted and general issue license plates will now be
manufactured from recycled aluminum. The use of recycled aluminum is not
only environmentally friendly but also provides significant benefits in
several other areas (see attached).
