Category: Specialty Plates
Subject: State Official (SO) License Plate Registration
Attachment 1
Attachment 2
Attachment 3
Attachment 4

PURPOSE
To inform you that the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will be assisting newly-elected State Officials and incumbents in securing State Official (SO) license plates.

DETAILS
TxDOT employees are currently coordinating efforts to make SO license plates available to all newly-elected State Officials and incumbents at the Pre-Session Legislative Conference on November 30, 2004. TxDOT is also offering State Officials two options in receiving their plates.

The attached correspondence and instructions were mailed to all State Officials. The letter informs the State Officials of the following options to receive plates.

  • Option 1 – allows State Officials to receive their SO license plates at the
    Pre-Session Legislative Conference.

  • Option 2 – allows them to receive their SO license plates at their local
County Tax Assessor-Collector’s (TAC) Office. The plates will be in the TAC offices by December 8, 2004.

In addition, we have provided the application for specialty license plate (State Official) and form VTR-214 for the State Officials who request the International Symbol of Access.

COUNTY ACTION
Once TxDOT receives the registration fees, they will be express mailed to the State Officials’ respective County Tax Assessor-Collector for appropriate processing. We are operating as a courier service for you. It is expected only a few dozen officials plan to pick up their SO plates at the Capitol.

CONTACT
If you have any questions or need any additional information, please contact your local Vehicle Titles and Registration Division Regional Office or call Mike Craig, Deputy Director, or me at (512) 465-7570. Thank you very much.
