PURPOSE
Provide information on updated Registration Fee Schedules,
effective January 1, 2005.
DETAILS
Since the registration fee structure for passenger vehicles is based on
year model, an adjustment must be made each year in the year models
assigned to each fee group. Effective with the registration period that
begins on January 1, 2005, the year models in each fee group will be as
follows:
| 1999 and older models |
$40.80 |
| 2000, 2001 and 2002 models |
$50.80 |
| 2003 and newer models |
$58.80 |
A new Passenger Fee Schedule is attached. The prorated fee chart for
passenger vehicles weighing less than or equal to 6,000 pounds is
located on the reverse side of the attached Fee Schedule.
As in previous years, the year model adjustments will first appear on
registration renewal notices mailed in November for vehicles having
December 2004 registration expiration dates because the owners of these
vehicles will be paying registration fees for the period beginning
January 1, 2005. If an owner applies for a renewal of a DEC 04
registration without a renewal notice, the fee must be computed using
the new fee schedule.
New and out of state passenger vehicles registered during December
2004 will be charged fees based on the current fee schedules. During
this period, if a Texas titled vehicle requires the issuance of 13 to 36
months of registration, the current fee schedule will be used. Starting
on January 1, 2005, the new fee schedules will apply to all
registrations and renewals. These fees are registration fees only; they
do not include any additional fees (i.e., road and bridge fee, child
safety fee, etc.).
COUNTY ACTION
Please make additional copies of the updated Passenger Fee Schedule as
needed to update guides in your office. You should retain some of your
current fee schedules for use after December 31, 2004, to calculate
credits involving exchanges, low weights, etc., when the original fee
was collected from the current schedule. You should also retain your
current prorated fee chart for passenger vehicles weighing more than
6,000 pounds since a new distribution of those charts will not be made.
