PURPOSE
To provide information on the new souvenir license plates now available to the public.

DETAILS

• A souvenir license plate is not to be used as an insignia of registration on a motor vehicle or on a motorcycle.
• Souvenir license plates are available for the general issue license plate (Lone Star State Plate) and 22 other specialty license plates (see the plate selection box on the attached order form).
• Orders will be submitted to the Special Plates Branch for processing. The cost is $20 per souvenir license plate, and $40 if the license plate is personalized.
• A personalized version of the souvenir license plate may contain up to two lines of eight characters each. Character selections will be screened against the standard criteria for objectionable or obscene content.
• If a personalized license plate order is not approved, a letter of explanation will be mailed to the customer.
• The Special Services Branch will arrange for shipping directly to the customer.
• Currently, motorcycle souvenir plates are not planned nor scheduled to be manufactured.
• Attached is a photocopy of the new general issue souvenir license plate, and a shell news release that may be used by your office.
• There is no limit on the number of plates an individual can purchase.

COUNTY ACTION
Attached is a copy of Form VTR-998 to be used to order souvenir license plates. The order form may be photocopied for use until a supply of the form is received from the Vehicle Titles and Registration Division.
