Processing Trailers with no Vehicle
Identification Numbers (VIN) |
PURPOSE
When a sticker is printed through Point-of-Sale Sticker Printing (POSSP) the
last eight digits of the VIN are printed on the sticker; however, this is not
true for trailers that do not have a VIN. With the implementation of POSSP,
trailers without a VIN can no longer be processed at subcontractor locations.
The Remote Sticker Printing System (RSPS) located at subcontractor locations
does not have the capability that the county tax offices do to override and
process transactions that do not have a VIN.
The customer may obtain an assigned number for the trailer which would allow
future renewal at a subcontractor location or on the Internet. If a customer
does not want to request an assigned number, they will be required to renew the
trailer registration at the local county tax office.
DETAILS
The following steps must be completed if a customer wishes to obtain an
assigned VIN:
- The customer must complete the Form VTR-68-A, Application For Assigned
or Reassigned Number. The top portion must be completed by the owner of
the trailer, and the bottom portion completed by law enforcement. The owner’s
signature requires notarization.
- To obtain an assigned number, the customer will be required to take their
registration receipt and the completed Form VTR-68-A, Application For
Assigned or Reassigned Number, to their local Vehicle Titles and
Registration Division (VTR) Regional Office.
- The assigned number will need to be die-stamped on the trailer.
COUNTY ACTION
Once the assigned VIN has been entered into the Registration
and Title System. any subsequent renewal can be processed at a subcontractor
location, via the Internet, or at the county tax office.
