These documents contain text of correspondence sent by TxDOT to the county tax assessor-collectors, statutory agents who provide vehicle registration and titling services for citizens in Texas. This information is provided to apprise the general public of issues affecting the state’s vehicle titling and registration process.

Registration and Title Bulletin #107-03

Date: September 26, 2003
To: All County Tax Assessor-Collectors
Subject: License Plate of the Month/Big Bend National Park Specialty License Plate

PURPOSE
To provide you with a news release and information about the Big Bend National Park specialty license plates featured in October.

DETAILS
For the month of October, we are highlighting the Big Bend National Park specialty license plates.

These license plates are available for motorists to purchase at anytime, regardless of when their vehicle registration expires. The plates are available for passenger cars and light trucks for $30 per year, in addition to regular registration fees. Previously, these plates were $50 per year but new legislation has reduced the annual fee to $30. Of this annual fee, $7.50 goes to
the highway fund for administrative costs and 50 cents goes to the county in which the plate is issued. The remaining $22 will be deposited into an account administered by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for improvement or preservation of the park. The form number for ordering these plates is VTR-336.

Attached is a "shell" news release that you can customize and send to local media. We plan to send a similar release to TxDOT’s district public information offices statewide. The shell release will be e-mailed to tax assessor-collectors with e-mail capability. If you don’t receive this e-mail and would like to be included, please send a request to Rpolson@dot.state.tx.us.

CONTACT PERSONS
If you have any questions, please contact your local VTR Regional Office or call Roger Polson, VTR Public Information Officer, at 512/302-2076.
