License Plate of the Month/Professional Sports Team License Plates |
PURPOSE
To provide you with a news release and information about the professional
sports team specialty license plates featured for the month of September.
DETAILS
This month we are highlighting the professional sports team specialty license
plates. These plates promote the Houston Texans and Dallas Cowboys NFL football
teams and raise funds to build and improve sports facilities. Later this month,
the Dallas Stars plate will be unveiled.
The professional sports team license plates are available for motorists to
purchase at anytime, regardless of when their vehicle registration expires. The
plates are available for passenger cars and light trucks for $30 per year, in
addition to regular registration fees. The Houston Texans specialty plate
features the Houston Texans logo with the words "Houston Texans" at
the bottom of the plate. The Dallas Cowboys specialty plate features the
signature blue star on the left side with the words "Dallas Cowboys"
at the bottom of the plate. Graphic depictions of the plates are attached.
Also attached is a "shell" news release that you can customize and
send to local media. We plan to send a similar release to TxDOT’s district
public information offices statewide. The shell release will be e-mailed to tax
assessor-collectors with e-mail capability. If you don’t receive this e-mail
and would like to be included, please send a request to
Rpolson@dot.state.tx.us.
COUNTY ACTION
Under this legislation, County Tax Assessor-Collectors should accept title
transfers with the limited POA as an approved form for transfer of ownership.
There are several things the county tax offices will need to be aware of with
the introduction of this legislation.
-
The limited POA can be dated and signed at the time the "balloon-note
due" contract is signed by the purchaser, or at any time after that.
-
There is the possibility that the limited POA could be multiple years old at
the time of transfer of ownership.
-
Since the department will not prescribe the limited POA, there could be several
versions and all versions would be acceptable.
-
The holder of the contract must include a statement confirming that the vehicle
was returned at the election of the owners and not as a result of remedies for
default.
