Apportioned Registration
To qualify for apportioned registration, a registrant must operate
interstate and:
- your fleet is used for the transportation of persons for hire or
is designed, used or maintained primarily for the transportation of
property, and
- is a power unit with 3 or more axles (regardless of weight),
and/or
- is a combination of vehicles where the weight of the combination
is over 26,000 lbs. (Arizona – over 6,000 lbs.)
Vehicles or combinations thereof, having a gross vehicle weight of
26,000 lbs. or less, two-axle vehicles, and buses used in transportation
of charter parties may be proportionally registered at the option of the
registrant.
New Account Requirements (open a new account)
Verification of your place of business will be required. Established
Place of Business – means a physical structure owned, leased, or rented
by the fleet registrant. The physical structure shall be designated by a
street number or road location (PO Box not accepted), be open during
normal business hours, and have located within it:
- a telephone or telephones publicly listed in the name of the fleet
registrant,
- a person or persons conducting the fleet registrant’s business,
and
- the operational records of the fleet (unless such records can be
made available in accordance with the provisions of Section 1602.)
The following information must be provided at the Regional Office:
- Texas Title/Current Texas Registration or Texas Title Application

- Proof of Liability Insurance (lease agreement if insurance in name
other than applicant)
- Heavy Vehicle Use Tax - IRS Form 2290 Schedule 1 (Vehicles
55,000 lbs. or more)
- Apportion Registration Application

- Proof of established place of business such as current utility or
telephone bill and Texas Driver's license. Driver's license alone is
not acceptable proof.
